Etihad Airways

The national airline of United Arab Emirates (UAE), Etihad Airways, has launched its daily flight to Los Angeles. The flight, EY 171, will fly back and forth from Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). With this, LA becomes the fourth destination of US to be added on the network of the airlines, the rest being Washington DC, New York and Chicago.

The news has been warmly welcomed by travellers and as per market experts, this is going to help people wishing to fly off to California. Moreover, this would also help the airlines cash in more than 18 million people who can now access direct flight to Abu Dhabi and hence reach into the territories of Middle East and Indian Subcontinent.

It is interesting to note that before boarding, checked-in baggage and travellers taking the flight will go through US immigration, agriculture and customs inspections. This would save a lot of time and eventually eliminate the need to process the same on arrival in the US.

In an eventful interaction with the media, James Hogan, Etihad Airways’ President and Chief Executive Officer said, “Los Angeles is one of the world’s premier travel destinations and iconic cities and we are delighted that today it becomes part of the Etihad Airways global network.”

He also added, “Etihad Airways joins an impressive list of international air carriers that are now able to offer passengers an improved and exceptional level of customer service with the opening of the new Tom Bradley International Terminal.”

Not to be left out, Gina Marie Lindsey, the executive director at Los Angeles World Airports expressed delight saying, “We are thrilled Etihad Airways chose LAX, gateway to the world, for this new, historic service and warmly congratulate them on their inauguration.”

The airbus serving EY 171 can accommodate upto 240 guests and has 200 Economy Class Seats, 28 Business Class flatbed seats and 12 First Class suites. It is expected to go through a transition from three-cabin, long-range Airbus 340-500 to three-cabin, long-range Boeing 777-200 LR by mid-July. By Harshita Srivastava
